Where do these papers agree and disagree about later school start times?

The Seattle study measured more sleep on school days after the later start (Dunster et al., 2018), the flexible-start authors report about an hour more on late-start days (Biller et al., 2022), and START/LEARN takes the sleep benefit as its starting point (James et al., 2023). Their findings on grades differ.
- More sleep: Seattle students' median sleep on school days rose by 34 minutes in 2017 (Dunster et al., 2018). The flexible-start authors report about an hour more sleep on days with a later start (Biller et al., 2022), though on average students took too few late starts for weekly sleep to differ significantly (Biller et al., 2022).
- Grades: The Seattle students' grades were 4.5% higher; the authors call causality much harder to attribute, though they find it reasonable that better-rested students do better (Dunster et al., 2018). The flexible-start study found no systematic relationship with grades once gender, grade level, quarter and subject area were accounted for (Biller et al., 2022). In START/LEARN, GPA was 0.07 to 0.17 points higher relative to comparison schools, and only in the second year of follow-up (James et al., 2023).
- Attendance: First-period tardies and absences fell at only one of the two Seattle schools (Dunster et al., 2018). In START/LEARN, students had three fewer late arrivals and one fewer absence than students at comparison schools; effects were larger in the second year, and the absence difference appeared only then (James et al., 2023).
Your papers do not settle whether extra sleep improves grades: the Seattle authors find causality much harder to attribute (Dunster et al., 2018), and the flexible-start authors suggest grades are likely a suboptimal way to evaluate timetable changes (Biller et al., 2022).

Questions students ask
Can Litrevu still get things wrong?
Yes. Litrevu checks that every citation points to a passage in your papers, but not that the passage fully supports the sentence. That is why you can open each cited passage. Read it before you rely on a claim, and treat every answer as a lead to check rather than a fact.
How does Litrevu help with a literature review?
It reads every paper you add, so you can ask what they say, where they agree and where they disagree. It compares papers side by side in a table, checks a paragraph you wrote against your sources, and helps you plan a structure for the review. Every answer cites the passage it came from. It can also draft cited text into a document beside the chat. How do I get my papers in?
Upload PDFs, paste a paper's URL, DOI or arXiv link, or paste its text. If you type a topic, Litrevu also finds open-access papers you can pick and add. Litrevu cites only papers in your library and does not search the web. When your papers don't cover a question, it says so, and anything it adds from general knowledge carries no citation.
Which citation styles and file formats does it support?
APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, Vancouver and IEEE, and you can switch style at any time. Export your review to Word (DOCX) or PDF, and your references to BibTeX or RIS for your reference manager.
Are my papers used to train AI?
No. Your papers, chats and drafts are private to your account: nobody else can see them, and we never sell them or share them with advertisers. To read and answer, Litrevu sends the text of your papers to its AI providers, currently OpenAI and Google, on paid API terms that forbid using your content to train their models. Your PDF files stay in our own cloud storage and are not sent to them. You can remove a paper from your library at any time. To have a stored file deleted as well, email [email protected].
Can it run a systematic review?
Not the method. Litrevu has no screening or PRISMA flow. It helps you read, compare and check papers you have already chosen.
